CASTELLO DI SANTA MARIA

In the past, the Castle of Santa Maria was a Convent. It goes back to the 15th Century when the Camaldolese decided to build it with an attached Church. The Church and its frescoes were restored by the present owners. In 1988, the Church was reconsecrated. The building and the outbuildings, surrounded by secular trees and olive groves, are located on a hill of about 400 metres in altitude in the midst of the green countryside, still, they are very close to the populated areas. In autumn, when olive picking season starts, and, in general, until the end of the year, you can see how olives are cultivated and transformed into extra virgin olive oil directly from the Castle's oil mill.

The rooms inside the castle are all on the second floor, immersed in a austere and suggestive atmosphere; the rich library at the Guests' disposal can satisfy every literary taste: among books, paintings, lights and shadows, you will feel the emotion of living in another age. You can also choose to stay in one of the outbuildings which surround the castle, immersed in the peace of the olive trees or overlooking the characteristic Calanchi Valley. Both the rooms and the outbuildings respect their XIV-XVI century origin and feature every modern comfort (air conditioning, video TV) to assure the Guests an extremely pleasant stay.
